i’m walking down a country road, in the
middle of the road, in the middle of
a warm summer night. on my left, in the
ebony sky, hangs a large shiny white
moon. on my right, across the dark meadow,
fireflies flit here & there, everywhere.
they look like fairies in a tale told to
tweens, all feathery & leaving rainbow trails.
the road goes up a hill, down a valley,
up & down, one after another. the
moon travels with me. her face shines on me.
where am i going? why am i alone?
& just how long have i been on this road?
oh, the answerless questions in a dream.
