(sonnet with the doors)
the doors were on the radio playing
in & out of my dream. chestnut ridge park
in the rain. i was standing in a stream.
crying, crying, crying. it was hot &
humid, a summer day. the sheet stuck
to my legs & i was clammy with sweat.
i couldn’t forget that you had left me.
i couldn’t forget that you were now with
her. i had another beer & walked back
to the pavilion. & then you appeared.
white & gold. shining like an apollo.
you wanted perfection. i wanted love.
i woke up & wondered what it could mean.
i saw the moon glowing with a tear-blurred sheen.
