poetry challenge day 17

(shoal woman)

water moves over you, taking small bits

& particles of dirt & plant life along.

you are the place in the river that is

shallow, sandy, devious.  your smile

beckons but your position constantly

changes.  one day i think i am touching

the soft mud bottom of you, lined with smooth

stones that shine in the sun & i am glad

to have such a good & beautiful friend.

the next day you have changed.  you slide out from

under my feet.  i fall to my knees &

am cut by the sharp stones hiding

under your sparkling flow.  bright red blood

disperses in the water.  i swim back

to shore,  your wet laughter loud in my ears.
